About

This PracThe mission of the Practical Nursing Program is to provide technical training to prepare members of the community and surrounding areas to become compe­tent providers of health care in hospitals, clinics, long-term health care facilities, and related industries. Practical Nursing Program is designed to provide training in the competencies required of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).  All instructional units must be successfully completed for progression in the course.  The course is 1296 hours and is 12 months in length with a diploma awarded after successful completion. Careful consideration is given to the standards set by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing* in the development and upgrading of this program.

This program is designed to meet the needs of nurses employed in hospitals, nursing homes, home healthcare, etc. Classes are held at the Fall and Summer Applicants attend TCAT – Livingston, and Spring Applicants attend the TCAT – Livingston Extension Campus at the Cookeville Higher Education Campus (CHEC). Clinical sites designed to meet program requirements. Preparation for licensure by the State Board of Nursing begins with the student’s application process and continues throughout the year-long program.

Students interested in enrolling in the Practical Nursing program must visit the receptionist to schedule the HESI entrance exam.  This is a new extrance exam selected by the state.  The exam cost is $39 (cash, credit or debit card accepted) and tentative schedule is below.  Suggested practice tests can be found at Testpreview.com.  Study books will be available at a later date.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to test time.

Exams are offered at 8am and 12:30pm on those dates.  Last date to take the HESI exam for the Summer program is April 3rd.  All requirements must be received by no later than April 5th to be considered for the Summer program.

For entrance into the Practical Nursing program, a student must have a high school or GED/HiSET diploma. Students in the program are subject to drug testing and background screening.
